We’ve had some really sweet props in the last few days. I’m not gonna go into too much detail, but some mighty nice folks -including some Meaningful Names -have singled us out for some of our advice & generally Good Mojo, and we’re thankful to be above ground and helping where we can. It’s all good.

And I’m not just using the editorial “We,” here. There is a select group of very talented peeps -The Krewe of Mojojinators! -doing their magic offstage, and soon, we’ll be bringing them out into the spotlight to take a bow. At least a couple of them are the shy type, but somehow, we’ll charm them into at least doing a “Meet & Greet” out here.

In the meantime, we appreciate the Tweets, the emails, and the comments you’re leaving here. I learned a long time ago that the worst someone can say to your request -unless it is patently illegal or a touch naughty -is “No.” So…if you don’t see what you need here -why, go right ahead and ask me for it. If it’s a legit request, we’ll do our best. And if we can’t get it for you, we’ll do our best to tell you where to find it. Fair enough?

You say you’re heading down South to celebrate Mardi Gras? Well, if you want to go where it all began (at least on this side of the Atlantic), you’d best program your GPS for Mobile, Alabama.

Mobile, Alabama?

You don’t have to take my word for it –but if you don’t believe the good Doctor is telling you the truth, do a little research on your own. Plug “Mardi Gras” into Google and you’ll find pages and pages of sites pertaining to New Orleans.

Google “Mardi Gras in Mobile, Alabama,” however (I’ve done it for you right here) and you’ll get the rest of the story, as Paul Harvey used to say.

Which is, basically, that Mobile was the first capital of “French Louisiana” -that’s before the Louisiana Purchase, natch -and they’d been celebrating Mardi Gras for 15 years before New Orleans was founded.

Why is it then that the majority of us link Mardi Gras and New Orleans?

Easy. It’s obvious that New Orleans has had much better press agents.

I’m also certain that N’awlins’ reputation for debauchery certainly carries some weight as well. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that!)

Got me thinking -how much of what we know to be true is really just good marketing … or, in the case of New Orleans… Great Mojo Marketing?

In business, shouldn’t we be using the New Orleans model versus that of Mobile?

I’m not suggesting hype over truth. Just a reminder that if we don’t toot our own horn (and do so loudly), no one else will.

So get tooting your business horn and while you’re at it, enjoy the Mardi Gras, regardless of whether you’re in Mobile, New Orleans, San Jose, Arlington, Chicago or huddled around the campfire in the swamps of Michigan.

I know I will.

Info.cern.ch was the address of the world’s first-ever web site and web server, running on a NeXT computer at CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research. The website went up in 1990, and this is the earliest known copy of their site in 1992. You can click the pix to see the real thing. And get fhe fun facts right here.

I find it most interesting that it was set up as a moveable feast -the handful of users made frequent changes and additions to keep each other up to speed on their projects and interests. It was never meant to be a static thing… more like a …
