Quick-Start Guide: Set Your 2011 Business Goals

At my seminars, I’m always amazed when I ask people to raise their hands if they have their yearly goals set and written down. Less than 30 percent of the audience responds. I’m tempted to shout (and I often do) – “People -what are you thinking? The best and easiest way to significantly increase your business profits is to have a goal -and then a plan to help you achieve it!”

To forestall that happening when I see you next, I’ve put together this little video that can definitely help your business in the coming year. “Begin with the end in mind; how to quickly set your business goals” is a simple and concise four-step plan you can follow to set, implement and fine-tune your goals for optimal success!

“Why business goals, anyway? Isn’t this all about marketing?”

Well, yeah. We’re all about marketing here. But before you start your marketing for the next year, it’s best to have some clearly defined goals and objectives set for your small business. Otherwise, how are you going to measure your success?

When you get in your car, you generally have a destination in mind. When you go on vacation, it’s usually budgeted and planned long before you go. The same with running your business; it takes just as much -or even more -preparation.

When you’re finished watching the video, get started on your own goals for 2011. We’ve got a handy form available to help you do just that. Pick up a free copy right here.

Get more views on YouTube videosIf you want lots of YouTube views, here’s a few techniques that will get you more views and more hits on your own website.

1. Keep your YouTube video short.

Don’t make videos that take forever to load -or play. People have other things on their minds, and an aggregator site like YouTube has far too many choices for them to pick from already. A recent study on video-sharing websites suggests that a video works best when it is under 5 minutes in length. A CBS-TV report from 2011 says two minutes is fine. So even though YouTube allows you a maximum of 10 minutes, keep it under 5 minutes.

Don’t Be Afraid Of A Little Test.

test-formEvery successful practitioner of Marketing Mojo knows that marketing is as much an art as a science, and that a good promotion is really a series of tests to isolate ‘can’t miss’ approaches from ‘can’t afford them’ mistakes.

The burden is on you to plan your marketing to include ways for capturing critical knowledge about which promotions produced which positive results –and then using that information to your best advantage.

In today’s economy, it’s more important than ever to measure the results of your marketing efforts. Once you’ve got some clear results in hand, you can weed out the ad campaigns and the ads, the promotions and the media choices that aren’t performing, and also evaluate whether to expand those that are doing well for you.

Measuring the success of marketing programs can be as easy as consistently asking customers where they heard about you when they make a purchase, and then keeping track of their answers. We used this technique in my own business by asking every customer making an order how they heard about Great Lakes Video Services.

Responses were entered into a computer with the order info, and we could review the data when needed to make decisions about which marketing and promotional programs to continue, which to drop, and which to ramp up.
