And how will YOU celebrate “National Respect for Chickens Day?”
This marks the first time in several weeks that I’ve felt good enough to write something that I thought might be worth more than keeping the paper shredder fat and happy. The normally-indefatiguable Doctor was laid low by some creeping crud that had me almost hoping some jealous boyfriend from the past might knock on the door and put an end to my miseries. Thankfully, it didn’t happen; and with the help of some powerful potions, I’m 90 percent better and improving rapidly. Ready to rock and roll into the second decade of the century, right alongside you.
One of the things I normally do early in December is to update and republish our Promotional Calendar of Events… which serves as a reminder to y’all that there are all sorts of promotions happening on a monthly basis that you can (and probably should) tie in to with your marketing. Yeah, yeah, we all know -Christmas, Graduation, Easter, Halloween and the rest. But do you know when the best time to get started with your seasonal promotions is? It varies from event to event. Obviously, the greedy fools in big business have decided we should start marketing Christmas on Halloween -or so it seems, anyway… but ours is a kinder, gentler marketing event planner that is hopefully more tailored to your human-scaled business.
And while our own Promotional Calendar -get yours here -free, with our compliments and best wishes for a great 2010! -does not cover many of the lesser holidays, there’s no reason you can’t make a remarkable sales event out of “National Respect for Chickens Day,” which occurs on May 4th. Or “Barbie Day,” on March 9th -perfect for a doll shop, doncha think? Or how about you office-oriented folk doing something special on March 9th -”Organize Your Home Office Day?”
If I were running a match or a dating service, I’d certainly want to do something with February 6th, which is “Dump Your Significant Jerk Day.” And regardless of the business, I’m certain we could all benefit from “National Compliment Day,” which is January 24th. And I don’t know about you but personally, I’m really looking forward to January 9th, which is “National Fruitcake Toss Day.”
There are hundreds more of interesting holidays and weekly celebrations, and a good online list of ‘em can be found at Brownielocks.com .Kind of a cheesy-looking place, but then again, they’re comfortably sitting in that enviable skybox full of Alexa’s Top 100,000 most-visited web sites. Function definitely trumping form, here.
