Gift Cards Good For Everyone.

There's Good Mojo in Gift Cards, regardless of your type of business.

There's Good Mojo in Gift Cards -consider them for your business.

I read a lot. As much as I can. About all sorts of things. Anyway, in order to make room for more books, I boxed up the ones with which I was bored, and went to trade them in at my favorite locally-owned book store. Instead of cash, I opted for in-store credit. Not only was it a better deal (I got more “money”), it would serve my needs just fine.

I’d use the credit to get more books. But first, a cup of coffee and a little slice of something-or-other.

Zounds! The in-store credit doesn’t cut it at the in-store café. So I had to trade my in-store credit for a gift card. Which meant, whether I wanted to or not, I had to spend whatever credit was on the card, in the store. That was that. Tricky, eh?

Gift cards are a brilliant idea for those of us who can’t come up with creative ideas for gifts but even more so for retailers of virtually any persuasion.  Say someone purchases a $100 gift card. Eventually, the card gets used but the ultimate recipient only cashes in 70 bucks from that card. The retailer never loses the additional $30. This happens more often than you might think. Research shows that a significant of people -anywhere from 12 to 30 percent of recipients -never use up their gift cards. Or use them at all.

Gift cards are great for getting people into your place of bizness where, if they like you, they may come back and spend even more with you. I’ve gotten gift cards for places I’ve never been before; wine bars, restaurants, clothing stores, bookstores. The gift card gets me in the door. Good products and good service bring me back.

You can get all fancy and use a plastic card with renewable balance, have a nice card designed and printed, or even use print them up letter-size. (I recently got a gift card for an hour-long massage in this style. Sweet!)

When my friend Dianna Hund of Best DVD Solutions -an Orange County digital media transfer business -finishes a project for a customer, she often suggests they purchase one of her company’s gift cards ($100 and more) and pass it on to a hard-to-shop-for friend or relative. Dianna’s business relies on word-of-mouth marketing and her prospects’ desire to transfer their photos, slides and old movies to digital media. I wouldn’t have thought of using a gift card for this type of business but Dianna did.

The best part? Whether recipients use the card or not, Dianna says, “I’m not doing it for the money as much as just getting more referrals.”

Often, Good Mojo is just about thinking outside the box.

For doing that, and for sharing her idea, Dianna gets “Good Mojo” for the day.

I purchased this amazon gift card for my daughter’s birthday. She loves it! I read some negative reviews before purchasing, but everything was fine. Very easy to use, thank you, Amazon!
