Lost in the Digital Jungle? Here’s An Easy Way Out.
“The truth is, we no longer live in a world of six degrees of separation. In fact, we’re now down to only six pixels of separation, which changes everything we know about doing business.” Mitch Joel
If you run a business or offer a service, Mitch Joel’s new book is going to help you find your way through the Digital Jungle. It’s my kind of book -short and precise, making sense out of a complex subject.
As I’ve said here before, many of the traditional media used for marketing and advertising, including Yellow Pages, have one foot in the grave right now; and their replacements are pretty much a mix of the fairly new (including websites) and the newer new (including Facebook pages).
Joel’s book “Six Pixels of Separation: Everyone Is Connected. Connect Your Business to Everyone” helps to define what could be considered a good current media mix. And note the word “current,” please. Because no one really knows what the next new thing might be. No one anticipated Twitter, and nobody knows what’s coming after it. And no one knows when that next new thing might get dropped into the jungle. But -if you’re not doing the current new stuff, you’ll be even farther behind when the next new thing shows up.
If you’re new to the new media game, “Six Pixels of Separation” has quite a bit of useful information and anecdotes about what’s working for whom, and how to implement it yourself.
If you’re ready to get connected to your customers online, pick up a copy. And if you’re resistant to the idea -well, time to put that aside and get set to enter the Jungle. There’s no need to do everything Mitch talks about; start blogging. Or start a Twitter account and be helpful. Or start a Facebook fan page and show people what you do and what people say about your work. This book will show you how it’s done.
