What Marketing Mojo Isn’t, And Will Never Be.

"Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain..."
Nearly every day, I’m reminded of how difficult it can be for small business owners (and others as well) to find useful and legitimate information about the tools you need to successfully market your business.
Although the Internet provides a wealth of information, quite often, that information is nothing but noise. It can lead you to believe that you know nothing -and will know nothing -unless you fork out well-earned money to those who know it all.
Google “Facebook” or “Twitter,” for instance, and you’re certain to find hundreds of people more than willing to teach you everything you need to know … and then some … for an astronomical price. I mean, really. Who needs a 250-page book about Facebook? It’ll take more time to read than to work the account! Granted, it certainly helps to know the basics – and if someone else has taken the time to learn those basics and wants to share them, that’s great. But, 250 pages worth?
The Problem With Gurus…
Here’s what I’ve come to believe – which is probably why I won’t become a millionaire any time soon: the whole problem with some of these “gurus” is that they start out fine…nicely going in their niche, passing out good information. Then they get hooked up with some high-roller who’s been doing online marketing for eons and who introduces them into the big buck world of Internet Marketing. They start caring LESS about helping people and MORE about making big sales … so they take perfectly good products, inflate the shit out of them, and start promoting them relentlessly. They Twit and email incessantly – they hawk each other’s products, seminars, and expertise – they turn from real-live people into buzzards circling the weak and needy.
I’ve personally seen it happen to an acquaintance of mine. He went from casual clothing and a down-to-earth persona to raising his prices a few hundred percent and wearing black silk tees and sleek black suits. “Why?” I asked. “Well, because if you’re going to go after the big bucks you have to dress up in a suit…” was his response.

Well, folks -here at Marketing Mojo, we don’t really like wearing suits.
We don’t like yelling at people.
We don’t like forcing our knowledge and expertise down someone’s throat and scaring them into buying our stuff.
But we’re not total idiots. We do believe people value more what they pay for. We just don’t believe in inflating our prices just to make you think our product is more valuable than someone else’s.
Do we want to make money? Certainly. Do we want to sell our souls to do so? NOT. So Panama hats, Tommy Bahama shirts, bad jokes, lots of laughs, good food, good drinks, and advice you can actually wrap your brain around – that’s what we’re about. (Okay – once in awhile you’ll find me onstage in a cheap Blues Brothers suit, but you get the drift ….)
We already offer a couple of invaluable free products. And very soon, we’ll have some equally fine business tools for you at what we think are very reasonable prices. While you’re waiting on those, take us for a test drive and check out the free stuff. Read the articles we’ve already published here. Contribute your comments in the appropriate areas, sign up for our email and/or RSS and/or Twitter feeds.
Join us in making money and having fun.
