search_engineWe hear a lot about the importance of Search Engine Optimization nowadays. Unfortunately, we rarely get the straight scoop on exactly how to optimize our websites. Well, Gabriel Shaoolian has a great article on Small Business CEO that not only quickly and succinctly defines SEO, but also  gives us some great tips on how to make our sites even more appealing to the search engines.

These tips include using bold and italic for emphasis -sparingly, of course -how to use links to your own content on other pages of your website to benefit your readers, and even tells you how many words per page isn’t enough -and how many is too many.

Our verdict: Good Mojo for marketing your business. Take five and check it out.

Who knew tricycles could be so cool?

At left, Susan and Roger Hunsberger.

I recently reconnected with good friends Roger and Susan Hunsberger, uncommonly cool designers who run their own marketing communications firm,  Hunsberger-Stap.

Here’s an example of  just how cool these people can be:

Fifteen years ago, they purchased three kids tricycles for an agency promotion.

Not knowing what to do with the trikes after the shoot, they donated them to Family & Children’s Services of Grand Rapids, who gave them to disadvantaged kids as Christmas gifts.

“We thought that small gesture was a great one,” Susan told me, “so the next year we decided to build and donate more trikes.”

A lot of good karma generated right here...

Fast forward 15 years and get out the calculator; as of last Christmas, Roger, Susan and their staff have built and donated over 3,000 tricycles to various charitable organizations, from Grand Rapids to Chicago.

You can’t get much cooler than that.

This is definitely Good Mojo on the part of Roger and Susan and their company.  It’s a great way to share their blessings with others less fortunate, and…

…it’s offbeat enough to get some good buzz going and help set their business apart from their competition.

So -what good Mojo have you used lately to set your business apart? Write and let us know.

Give clients a choice; a tip from the Olympics

If you’re selling packaged services or combinations of products, package them as “Bronze,” “Silver” or “Gold.”|

Presenting your offers in this fashion gives your client a choice he or she can readily recognize, which can lead to quicker sales. The prospect who always buys the best will go for the Gold, while the person who always wants to pay the least -or isn’t quite sure about the purchase -can consider picking up your Bronze package.

The prospect looking for the best value may be most attracted to the Silver.

And if you don’t like “Bronze,”  start off with “Silver” and work up to “Platinum.” Or “Titanium.” I don’t care if you’re selling cleaning services, photography or design services, this one really works.
